Chief of Police Keno Wilson and Officer Gonzales

Police Chief Keno Wilson was Chief from 1909-1917 and has the dubious distinction of being in charge during the famous "Raid of 1912" which was the effort to clean up the "Stingaree" prompted by the Purity League Ladies of San Diego. Chief Wilson is also known as the Police Chief to hire the first Woman, Black and Asian police officers. Mr. Wilson was demoted in 1917 and his minority officers were let go soon after. Also pictured in the accompanying photo is Officer Gonzales. Officer Gonzales was Chief of Police from 1838 to 1845 while San Diego was under Mexican rule and is 101 years old in this photo.
